June 14 marks the 23rd World Blood Donor Day. This year's global theme is “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives”, honoring the silent heroes whose voluntary donations safeguard lives worldwide.
Since the implementation of the Blood Donation Law, China has seen 140 million people participate in voluntary blood donation, with a cumulative total of 308 million donations. The national blood donation rate per 1,000 people has reached 11.4, and China's overall blood safety stands among the highest globally.
Safe blood is not only essential for routine clinical care, but also serves as the foundation for innovative drug development in cell and gene therapies and rare bleeding disorders. From safety studies of gene therapy products to clinical trials for hemophilia and thrombocytopenia, a reliable blood supply is a prerequisite for advancing research.
